Massages and Migraines
Massages are frequently associated with the body but they are also used to resolve headache problems as well .The massage techniques for achieving this purpose differ slightly from the other prominent massage techniques that may be used to solve other problems that concern the body and the mind. In order to understand the mode of operation of massages especially when they concern the head you have to understand the basic points about massage. The first part that should be understood about such massage treatments is the idea of pressure points. Pressure points are located over the body and when these points are pressed they lessen the amount of pain you feel in your head. These pressure points are usually the areas that are massaged gently in order to relieve the individual of the pain felt from the headache.
The massage may be carried out by you or more preferably a professional skilled in the massage procedure. The pressing of the pressure points of the head will involve applying pressure and releasing these same pressure points rhythmically in order to help you achieve the desired state. These gentle motions also help release the congested blood and toxins in the head that are responsible for the headache in the first place. The areas used to apply such pressure on the head include the pads of the thumbs or first two fingers and never the heads. The pressure applied should vary from light to moderate but never severe pressure as that only serves to worsen the situation.
Applying an insufficient amount of finger pressure on any of the massage points causes the massage to be ineffective. The application of an unwelcome amount of pressure creates a feeling of tension in the muscles of the head and further obstructs blood flow thereby worsening the pre–existing headache condition. There are some basic massage pressure points that you should be familiar with regardless of whether you intend to carry out the massage yourself or if someone else is doing it for you. These pressure points are listed as follows:
Base of Skull – This pressure point is located at the back of your skull just under the bony base of the same region. If the massage therapist approaches this region you should feel relaxed and allow him or her employ the massage while inhaling deeply during the process.
Mid–Forehead – Another massage pressure point can be found at the location between the eyebrows and this massage area usually requires precise manipulation.
Eye Corners – Massage pressure points are located at various eye corners just over the spots behind the bone in both areas.
Hand– Nerves extend over the human body and the fleshy part between your thumb and index finger contains certain nerve endings that bear a connection with the head.
Foot – At the point where the bones come together between the big toe and the second toe there are nerve endings which affect the blood flow to the head as well. Massaging these areas leads to much more relaxed state where the person is free from headaches.
